It's a difficult question to answer, especially when it's not something you expect to experience in your lifetime.
So when we got that chance, we gave our 110% because an opportunity like this comes along only once.
For those who may not know, G-Art was behind the much-discussed Ashoka Stambh sculpture that was recently installed on the new Parliament building.
When the project was first awarded to us, we were immensely elated and couldn't wait for the day it would finally be completed and installed in the state for the whole world to see.
This 9,500 kg bronze sculpture was crafted after careful research and planning, in a record time of nine months. An exact replica of the original Ashoka Stambh, the work began with our creative director Mr. Sunil Deore, sketching the sculpture, after which a clay model was prepared at our Aurangabad-based studio. The clay model was completed within five months and once it was approved, the fiber model was crafted. This was transported to Jaipur, where it was cast in bronze.
The sculpture was cast in three parts, the base + the
lions' feet, the middle part, and the faces of the lions. Each was cast
separately and assembled on the parliament's roof. One of the biggest
challenges for the team was factoring in the air pressure at the elevation of
33 meters.
For anybody unaware of the history, our emblem is based on the Lion Capital erected by Emperor Ashoka in 280 BC, at Sarnath. The four roaring lion heads symbolize the four values of a righteous nation, i.e. power, courage, confidence, and pride. The four lions are seated on a circular drum, on which four animals are carved, representing the four cardinal directions: a horse (south), a bull (west), an elephant (east), and a lion (north). Between each animal, there is the Ashoka Chakra, which tells us that there is life in movement and death in stagnation, thus representing a progressive nation.
The Pride of the Nation is a Pride for us the
House of GArt.
